Trigger Point - Case Profile
Profile
40-year-old female runner presented with history of left sided navicular stress fracture from overuse, no direct trauma. Even though the bone had healed on x-ray, she still had daily pain. At the time of her first NMT session, she could only run three miles before the foot pain forced her to stop.
Treatment
Trigger point pain referring from two key muscles -Extensor Hallucis Longus and Extensor Digitorum – reproduced symptoms in the navicular region of her foot that were felt while running. NMT treatment to calf muscles, Achilles tendon and plantar fascia further reduced pain. Gait analysis revealed excessive pronation and she was referred for orthotics to further reduce load on the navicular joint.
Result
After eight NMT treatments over the course of three months, client was running 35 miles a week. She continues to receive NMT once a month for maintenance.
