Neural Entrapment - Case Profile
Profile
19-year-old female college student with chronic lower leg pain, diagnosed with bilateral popliteal artery entrapment syndrome. Despite five surgeries to correct the artery entrapment and receiving physical therapy for more than three years, this client was still experiencing burning on the bottom of her feet.
Treatment
NMT was applied to residual scar tissue behind the knee that could perpetuate the neural entrapment and burning symptoms. Working 2x/week, gains were made to unwind the myofascial and muscular adhesions in the calves, distal hamstrings and hips. Every muscle with possible trigger point referral into the posterior knee and plantar surface of feet was checked and treated for trigger points.
Result
NMT Treatment helped to decrease secondary calf cramping and moderately reduced burning in her feet. Due to severity of scar tissue at multiple surgical sites, however, this is an ongoing case. NMT will continue to be integrated into her therapy regiment over the course of the next year as she slowly increases athletic activities.
